Although many moms nowadays still aspire to have a natural childbirth for various reason, often their wishes don't come true. This is especially true if the mom delivers the baby at a hospital.

Therefore if you really want to have a natural childbirth , it is important to be informed and prepare for it. Those who just wish that their birth will go smoothly and naturally are likely not to get it.

Here are the tips for maximizing your chance of having a natural birth:

FIRST, you need to choose your caregiver wisely. Your doctor or midwife has to be on board and really support your decision in giving birth naturally. Change the caregiver if you have a doubt about her/his commitment on natural birth. In general, it is easier to give birth naturally with a midwife, especially an independent midwife, because they have to be able to help you deliver babies without the help of modern technology. However, there are some physicians who have good reputation for supporting women who want to give birth naturally. If you really want a natural birth at hospital, invest your time in finding a supportive obstetrician.

SECOND, you need to choose your birth place wisely. Birthing place can make or break your wish of having an unmedicated childbirth. You should choose the one where you feel the most safe, secure, protected and comfortable. It is a known fact that contraction can stop suddenly when a woman feels unsafe, unsecure and uncomfortable.

In addition, you should find the place which is supportive of women giving birth naturally. Home, or birthing center are good places to be if you want to give birth naturally, whereas hospitals are generally more interested in managing birth with modern technology. If you want to have an unmedicated birth at a hospital, then make sure you get into a hospital which is supporting it or at least does not hinder it.

THIRD, read and watch natural childbirth videos. Educate yourself about pregnancy and childbirth. Nothing is more powerful than knowledge.

FOURTH, if you can afford it, go to a birthing class which specializes in unmedicated birth.

FIFTH, take care and prepare yourself for the birth. Eat right, and do plenty of exercise to get you ready for labor and birthing.
